Building a House: Plans are DONE!

Have you started to think that maybe all that “we are building a house” stuff was a fabrication? I know, it’s been a while since I’ve posted an update on the status of our new house. If you remember, my dream house, a plan I had torn out of Southern Living years ago, was this one, the Abberley Lane.southern living abberley lane floorplan

Our front elevation was being based off of this one and we thought the inside floor plan worked, for the most part. Back at the beginning of August in this post, I shared with you some of the changes we were making to the original. Well, what I thought was a few changes ended up being a lot of changes! That is what has taken so long!

BUT, I’m happy to announce that {for the most part} we are finished! We still have a few doors and windows to add/move around and a few details to work on, but we have a floor plan and we have an elevation! So here is the original…

I’m in love! It’s perfect! If you remember from the August update the main change we wanted to make to the elevation of the house was to move the garage around to the back {rather than sticking out front} so that we could extend the porch all the way around the front of the house. We now have a HUGE front porch!

Ok, now for the inside! I can’t really compare it to the original because we pretty much changed everything! With the exception of the dining room, hearth room and back stairs, nothing else is the same!

We took photos from magazines, floor plans from different houses, our own ideas, etc. and our fabulous architect, Kattie of KC Home Designs, did it!

Right now we are in the process of choosing our builder. I’ll give you an update soon!

  1. Can you have it built by November when Pat and I come down? LOL I would love to see the finished product. I guess we will have to make another trip next year. Love, Aunt Kathy

  2. I am so excited for you!!!! We are just finishing up our adventure. We hope to be in the house in just a couple of weeks. I have enjoyed the processes…for the most part and it is great being able to blog about it all. My biggest advice…speak up. I added a window long after it was easy to do but I am soooo glad I did. Enjoy

  3. Yay! Another house post! I love your plan and will be anxious to follow your progress! I agree with Dianne at The Inspired Housewife where she said In her August 6 post to take lots of pictures along the way…and label them! Knowing you, that won’t be an issue ;).

  4. Those plans are BEAUTIFUL!! I wish that we stayed in one place long enough to build my dream home (my hubby is in the Air Force). My dream is a huge front porch. Definitely love the inside layout too! I can’t wait to read more about the progress of it being built 🙂
